Wooden Phone Holder Stand To Watch In Bathtub

An Easy Woodworking Project

Wooden Phone Holder Stand

After a hard day’s work I like to treat myself to a long and relaxing bath. But like many people these days I find that I can’t go 15 minutes without something to read or keep me entertained.

I’ve tried to read books or a magazine in the bath and it works out fine until I get my hands wet. Just like getting the pages wet, I don’t like handling my phone or tablet with wet hands so I usually set it aside once I’ve dipped my hands wishing the rest of the time for a holder that I could sit next to me without the fear of having if fall into the water.

So, using scrap wood, I decided to build a simple cell phone holder that can sit on top of a stand next to the tub. It’s super simple but it works so well that I’m really happy with its functionality.

I had a couple of laminated two by fours lying around and cut at an angle with band saw leaving a couple of hooks at the bottom to cradle the phone.

Next I drilled a hole in the bottom for it to rest on top of a stand.

For the stand I had a scrap piece about 15″ long and chiseled a mortise into a 2×4 block for it to fit into. I cut the top of the stand down and sanded into a round peg to fit into the hole drilled into the phone holder.

To pretty it up I routered some groves on to the base and the stand rod and sprayed with some shellac.

The stand rod fit tight enough that it didn’t require any glue and I didn’t want to glue the phone holder on so that it could be used but itself.

It’s working so well that my son’s best friend takes it from me when he comes over and requested one of his own. I made one for him and now I’m hearing that his sisters have been using it too.

All in all a satisfying project that took little time and was built with scraps.
